• KIWANIS of WILTON ANNOUNCES 19th ANNUAL CITRUS SALE!
  
  January, 2012 -- The answer to the often heard question "When are those wonderful grapefruit arriving this year?" is now known. That’s right, the Kiwanis Club of Wilton is once again conducting this favorite fundraising event, and is now accepting orders. "Wilton residents and businesses each year look forward to this traditional Kiwanis Club event because of the opportunity to purchase fresh fruit during the peak of the season, take advantage of the tremendous value pricing, and be a part of Kiwanis' proud history of translating proceeds into community service," said Kiwanis President Steve Reedy.
  
  As with all Kiwanis fundraisers, every penny of profits derived from this sale will be donated to local non-profit organizations serving the Wilton area's needs. Those receiving past Wilton Kiwanis support include the Wilton Volunteer Ambulance Corps, Ambler Farm, Wilton Family Y, TRACKSIDE Teen Center, Wilton Library, Nursing & Home Care, AmeriCares, Wilton Youth Council, WHS Key Club, Domestic Violence Crisis Center, Mid-Fairfield Child Guidance Center, and so many others. The Kiwanis Club of Wilton historically makes donations to such organizations in the $40,000 - $50,000 range each year and last year's sale resulted in over $18,000 of those funds. Similar to previous years, Kiwanis will also be providing approximately 100 additional cases of fruit directly to local food pantries and shelters. Cash contributions are accepted and can be earmarked for donating fruit to the needy, if desired.
  
  The more recent addition of Honey Tangerines has been a success, so is once again being offered. This year's selection of fruit will be coming boxed in seven different packages: Pink Grapefruit, $23 for 2/5 bushel (about 18 pieces), and $40 for 4/5 bushel; Valencia Oranges, $23 for 2/5 bushel (about 40 pieces), and $40 for 4/5 bushel; Honey Tangerines, $23 for 2/5 bushel (about 40 pieces); and two combination boxes of Grapefruit with either oranges or tangerines, each at $25 for 2/5 bushel (about 29 pieces). "Kiwanis citrus fruit makes a welcomed gift for friends and family and is a wonderful way to say thank you to your clients or job well done to your employees," added Co-Chair Dave Hapke.
  
  Orders must be received by February 27th and can be securely placed online at www.wiltonkiwanis.org with a credit card or by PayPal. If preferred, order forms containing all pertinent information about the sale, can be printed for mailing, by using a credit card or by check payable to 'Wilton Kiwanis Foundation.' In addition, order forms will be available in person at The Wilton Bank, Peoples United Banks, the Wilton Family Y, the Wilton Library, and Stop & Shop in Wilton Center.
  
  The tree ripened citrus is handpicked in Florida and driven directly to Wilton in a refrigerated truck. Fruit will be ready for pick up on March 9th between 9 and 5, Saturday, March 10th, 9 to 5, or Sunday, March 11th, 12 to 5, at ECS Transportation, the site of former Goetjen & Son’s Warehouse at 390 Danbury Road, opposite Wilton High School. Orders of six or more cases can be delivered if requested. • January, 2012 -- During a recent meeting of the Wilton Kiwanis Club, Kiwanis Club Contributions Committee Chairman Mike Lindberg, presented a $1,000 check to Cathy Pierce of the Director of Wilton Social Services use within their Food Pantry. Mr. Lindberg also presented a check for $1,500 to Phil Richards, the President of Stay at Home in Wilton in support of their communications expenses (Click on either photo for a larger image).
